August 27, 2009 Angler and Boater Action Alert October 20-22, 2009 Your time on the water is being threatened by the implementation of the Marine Life Protection Act (MLPA), which requires the formation of a network of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) in California state waters, including Marine Reserves which prohibit all consumptive activities. This includes recreational fishing! In October, the Blue Ribbon Task Force (BRTF) will be making its recommendation to California's Fish and Game Commission regarding which areas of Southern California waters will be closed to recreational fishing. Unless the voices of concerned citizens are heard we are in danger of losing our right to access public waters and key fishing spots. What YOU can do! Plan on attending just one day of the public meeting in October and speak up during the public comment period! Let the BRTF members know how important your favorite fishing spots are and how anglers have always been part of the solution - not the problem! Let them know that additional marine reserves do not always mean more - or better - conservation! More Information to Follow! Visit www.KeepAmericaFishing.org for more information on the MLPA and October meeting. The Partnership for Sustainable Oceans is committed to protecting the health of California's ocean environment without unnecessary closures of California coastal waters to recreational fishing. This is our top priority! ### The Partnership for Sustainable Oceans (PSO) includes the American Sportfishing Association, Berkley Conservation Institute, Coastside Fishing Club, Contributing Members of the Avalon Tuna Club, International Game Fish Association, Kayak Fishing Association of California, National Marine Manufacturers Association, Nor-Cal Kayak Anglers, Shimano Sport Fisheries Initiative, Southern California Marine Association, the Sportfishing Association of California, United Anglers of Southern California and the Watermen’s Alliance
