Fishing and Boating Groups Unite to Ensure a Voice in California’s Marine Life Protection Act Initiative Process

A California statewide survey confirms that people believe that California’s oceans should be protected, but without unnecessary closures to recreational fishing.

In response to the California Blue Ribbon Task Force and California Fish and Game Commission’s mandate to preserve and protect the state’s marine resources under the state’s Marine Life Protection Act Initiative, a coalition of recreational fishermen’s organizations have united under one banner to ensure that people who fish and boat have a voice in the ongoing process of designating no-fishing zones off California’s coastline.

As part of that process a state-wide survey was conducted by California-based Field Research Corporation. The fishing and boating coalition has pledged to conduct its actions in a transparent fashion, and to that end the results of the survey are posted below for public review.

The results of this public opinion research suggest that the public and angler communities are aligned in their belief that the health of California’s ocean environment can be and should be protected without unnecessary closures of California coastal waters to recreational fishing.
