About Us The Keep America Fishing Web site started as a place to house information about California’s Marine Life Protection Act (MLPA) and other marine protected area concerns. The site, and the concept of Keep America Fishing, has expanded to include information on other “hot” spots where access and resources are in jeopardy – currently in North Carolina, Oregon, the Gulf of Mexico, the Pacific Ocean and Florida. Keep America Fishing's goal is to minimize the barriers to recreational fishing where the science supports it and thwart attempts to unduly prevent people from enjoying the sport. This isn't limited to restricting or banning marine recreational fishing as a means to manage marine resources, but also includes tackling issues such as off-road access, recreational fishing vs. commercial fishing quotas, declining access sites, fish stocks status and reviewing and assessing seasons, sizes and bag limits. We work to achieve this by closely following these issues and updating the KeepAmericaFishing.org Web site to provide the most up-to-date information. Through our email messaging system, we can send action alerts to subscribers when important issues arise that require action from anglers. We also host letter writing campaigns where anglers can let their voice be heard by public officials and legislators on important issues affecting the sportfishing community. In addition, Keep America Fishing provides an opportunity for people to donate to the Keep America Fishing fund, which directly supports efforts to fight access closures and help keep our nation's fish and their habitats healthy and accessible now and for generations to come. Keep America Fishing is managed and operated by the American Sportfishing Association (ASA), the sportfishing industry’s trade association.
